Backyard Baseball, Microfighter Style

Backyard Baseball, Microfighter Style

There was an intense backyard baseball game being played. It was the  LEGO Microfighters A-Wing and Tie Silencer Set Team against the LEGO Microfighters Ski Speeder and First Order Walker Set Team. The backyard belonged to the First Order Walker.

When there are only two players on each team, you have to be creative, and employ special rules.

A quick review of baseball rules modifications for backyard games featuring two player per team:

1). Since there are only two players per team, a ghost runner is employed if the batter makes it safely on base. Any LEGO ghost will do, including Library Ghost, Slimer, Pink Ghost, and Blue Ghost( all from LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters Set) ; Ghost Spider ( from LEGO Spider Mech vs. Venom Set ); Ghost Sharks ( from LEGO  Silent Mary Set ) ;Gentleman Ghost ( from LEGO Harley Quinn Cannonball Attack Set ); and, just plain Ghost( fro LEGO Quantum Realm Explorers Set ). Not to mention the many ghosts available in the LEGO Hidden Side Sets. Ghost players are chosen before the game begins, by team captains. LEGO ghosts love being ghost runners.

2).Since there is one pitcher and only one fielder, that fielder can throw the ball over a base, and the opposing team ghost runner will be out, if it can be determined that the ball would have beaten the ghost runner to the bag. If the ball goes through the ghost, it is considered a tie. All ties go to the runner. The ghost runner with the most ties at the end of the season will be presented with a LEGO Lord Business giant tie from the  LEGO  Lord Business’ Evil Lair Set. ( Obviously not  to be confused with a Tie Fighter, Tie Silencer, or, Tie Interceptor ) .

3). No bad language, because Microfighter First Order Walker’s neighbor, Mr. Rangetrooper ( from LEGO Star Wars Buildable Figures ), could be out in his yard, supposedly trimming his supposedly prize-winning roses. Mr. Rangetrooper spent a lot of time out in his yard, doing stuff, whenever there was a baseball game going on at the Walker’s house.

All in all, it was a hard fought contest. The teams were evenly matched. The Microfighter  Resistence Ski Speeder Pilot made some good plays in the field, even if he was trying to show off his new series 10 Minifig baseball glove.

The score was 24-23, when another team showed up: Tobias Beckett, Enfys Nest, and Weazel, from the LEGO Cloud-Rider Swoop Bikes Set. They were a known rowdy bunch, and therefore were told they would have to wait for this game to be over, before they could join in. They agreed to this condition, but opted to hang out in the yard to wait, and watch.

It wasn’t long before the disparaging remarks and general misbehavior started. It was the usual fare the Microfighters had come to expect from the Swoops Gang. Tobias began by comparing the Microfighter First Order Walker Driver’s brain cells to unrefined coaxium. ‘This is your brain,” he held up a clump of mud. ‘ This is your brain on coaxium. “ Tobias shot the mud  ball in the direction of  Mr. Rangetrooper’s yard. Kyle Ren from the Tie Silencer silently observed how Tobias was the kind of guy who seemed to not even notice the presence of the towering Mr. Rangetrooper. Probably because Tobias didn’t have to live with Mr. Rangetrooper always close by (and seemingly always glaring ).

Weazel decided to act as umpire. He always ruled against the ghosts, which especially disturbed Blue Ghost. Of course, Weazel had no authority, and needed only to be ignored. But, after the second time, Blue Ghost’s eyes started to tear up in anger, and he resorted to pulling up grass and throwing it at Weazel. Weazel announced that Blue Ghost was thrown out of the game.

“ Just keep playing,” entreated Kylo, “ Your side is up, and the score is now tied at 26. “

The A - Wing Pilot was pitching, underhand. The ball they were using was a Bionicle Zamor Sphere with Marbled Yellow Pattern. The First Order Walker Driver swung and missed, on two pitches in a row.

Enfys now decided it would be fun to hover and swerve over the field, especially between the pitcher and the batter. The First Order Walker Driver made a mighty swing, but only managed a slow roller toward first. Tobias joined in by chasing the runner and then throwing the loose ball at Mr. Range Trooper’s chain link fence. Mr. Trooper retaliated by aiming  his powerful, spring-loaded blaster weapon in their direction.

That was all that the  First Order Walker Driver could stand. He dramatically stalked off the field and into the house. The Ski Speeder Pilot picked up the bat ( Harley Quinn’s baseball bat from the Batman and the Joker Escape Set ), threw the zamor sphere up, and walloped it in Tobias’ general direction. He just missed hitting Tobias Becket in the ear.

Just then, Microfighter First Order Walker’s father, First Order Heavy Assault Walker, made a brief appearance, and sent everyone home. Kylo Ren sighed as he picked up the bases. Another good game spoiled by the neighbor kids.
